The P6 Respect class when I like them best

..... when they are hard at work !!

Students reviewing each other's work.

The winning piece of work with 12 stars.

.. and the proud winning team

24 April - Gallery Walk for Picture Description

Today, we pasted the groups' work on Picture Description all around the classroom. Each student was given two stars to vote for the best picture description based on the (1) description of the situation, (2) the feelings of the characters, (3) the personal opinion and (4) what will probably happen next.

There was a gallery walk and everyone averaged about 6 stars. The group that won had 12 stars.

I wanted everyone to exercise their vote with integrity and practice democracy in their little way. They were allowed to vote for their own work but had to use their 2 stars to vote for two separate groups.

I was happy that everyone was co-operative and voted seriously. It was quite interesting to walk around. The activity was better prepared by putting a strip of double-sided tape on each group's majong paper and preparing small cut-out stars with a hand-held pattern punch.

23 April - Group Work for Picture Description Exercise

On the afternoon of 23 April , the class worked in groups to write a script for Picture Description on majong paper.

Later, the group went around to judge the other group's work.
They did this by playing 'Stars and Hearts'. Each group was given post-sticks.
They had to write two things which they liked about the other group's work (Stars) and how they thought the other groups could improve their Picture Description (Hearts).
Each group wrote this down on the post-stick and placed this on the group's work. Pretty soon, everyone could see the comments of others and learned from each other.
I think the class learnt alot from one another and they had fun. The class was well-behaved and serious in their work.

Circles ... going in circles

The class learnt about circumferences but was confused about area of circle.
I had to re-teach the portion on the homework assigned in the textbook, P6B, Pg17, Qn (f)
Later, a few students still did not divide by 2 or multiply by half to find the circumference of semi-circle.

A few were confused and MINUSed when finding the perimeter of a figure which had a smaller semicircle within a larger semicircle. I think they were thinking of finding the area.
A few of them realised their mistake when I highlighted it to them during Com Lab time.
I think they need a few more exercises on calculating the circumference of circles in figures.
